About Me
My name is Corey Jacob Roberts, and I am an aspiring artist and game designer, that has respected and revered the gaming medium since childhood, upon being first introduced to the Ninja Turtles at age 3. However, wasn't until I first played Final Fantasy 7 that I became truly fascinated by what the medium could accomplish, and the awe I felt at experiencing such a fascinating world. Soon after playing, and before even finishing the game, I applied for a beta testing position at square soft as a freshly inspired 8 year old. I never got the position, but my interest in the field had not waned. As I grew older, I came to the realization that playing games for a living was not a realistic career path, and decided to join the U.S army in order to earn money for college and serve my country.
I enlisted as a Cavalry Scout and was assigned to 1-7 Cav Comanche Troop out of Fort Hood Texas upon graduation from basic training. I served for five years and deployed to Iraq from 2008 to 2009. While i met many great people, and learned invaluable lessons that helped shape who i am today; I knew pretty early on that the life of a career soldier was not something I wanted in the long term, and intended to pursue something with artistic value, that aligned with my dreams of creating stories and worlds for a living. After my initial enlistment contract, I was honorably discharged in 2013 and began researching options for the utilization of my G.I Bill. After learning about the Art Institute's from my brother, I enrolled in their Game Art & Design program.
Over the past four years I have learned how to build 3D models, as well as how to UVW map, texture and animate them. I have learned 2D animation, story boarding, color theory, graphic design; and world/level building, and have created countless projects in those fields gaining software proficiency and the experience needed in order to effectively fulfill a career in design. I have recently graduated and earned my bachelor's of science degree in Game Art & Design, and am looking forward to building characters and worlds that captivate the imagination; and inspire in others the same passion I have so often felt when picking up a controller, watching a movie; or reading a book.
